QUESTIONS TO A BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL FASHION WEEK FRANCESCO GROUP STYLIST!

James Earnshaw has worked for Birmingham Fashion Week sponsors the Francesco group for 4 years as creative director of their flagship salon in Birmingham. As well as running a busy column in salon James has a passion for session work and has worked backstage at many shows including London Fashion Week, Clothes Show Live and Style Birmingham and will be working backstage at this years Birmingham Fashion Week! James has created numerous photographic collections that have been featured in consumer and trade press internationally and secured finalist positions in the Wella Trend vision award and the L'Oreal colour Trophy, here we ask him a few questions about his style tips for 2014.....

If you could cut anyone's hair who would it be and why?
I would love to do something to Jennifer Aniston's hair, to me its been similar for so long and has become so predictable it would be nice to see her shock everyone and go for a crop or a stronger colour because she could really pull it off.

What's the secret to a good haircut?
To me the secret to a good haircut is listening to your hairdressers advice - they are trained to
know what will suit your face shape and lifestyle and should give you tips on how to style it at home, after all there's no point having the worlds best cut bob if you cant style it at home! Don't be afraid to ask questions and bring in pictures of what you do or don't like, I personally love seeing an image that a client has in mind instead to trying to understand explanations.

What is the ultimate styling tool that none of us should live without?
For me it has to be the standard wand by Cloud 9, its such a versatile tool that is so relevant to what has been going on with hair in fashion for the last few years. Whether you want to create messy beachy texture, sleek 1950s waves or grungy curls you can, its all about the way you hold and wrap your hair around it. It is an essential in my kit and I take it to every shoot or show I do.

What is your own particular favorite celeb hairstyle of all time?
My all-time favourite hair on any celeb has to be Sarah Murdoch (the Australian supermodel/presenter) she has this beautiful mid-length bob that she wears so many different ways and is so versatile it really compliments her face shape and jawline. Its the perfect shade of blonde on her too!

What hair trends will you be showcasing at BHMFW 2014 and what trends do you see are emerging for 2014?
For 2014 we will still be wearing the wave that we have been seeing for a while now, but for 2014 its more about the side parting and hair worn with more lift around the face and flatter at the crown to give It a more 90's feel. The biggest trend I am personally loving though is the return of the hair accessory - glittery broaches worn in long wavy hair down or embellished head bands on short hair! Designer Elie Saab had models for ss14 sporting slicked back hair with golden clips at the front hairline which I loved it was so fresh and a modern take on a classic headband.
