Last years Birmingham International Fashion Week showcased some gorgeous up and coming designers on our catwalk from all over the globe. Here we remember some of their fantastic work and reminisce ready for this years show that promises to be just as amazing and fabulously unforgettable!
Defined Moment
Day 1 Runway
Originating from Vietnam, Defined Moment the designer label of Tran Thi Thanh Nga, creates sculptural and elaborate pieces that move away from the conventional rules of beauty! With cascading layers of material and elaborate cuts ,the 2013 Birmingham fashion week designer creates beautiful unusual combinations of techniques and materials that stand him apart from any designer! The Defined Moment woman is one who is fashion forward and not afraid to stand out from the crowd with the radical structures and colour combinations of the pieces!
Dawn Sunflower
Day1 Runway
Dawn Nguyen the designer behind Sunflower originates from Asia and moved to America in her early twenties. She currently studies fashion design at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandise (FIDM) in Los Angeles, California USA. Dawn’s pure ambition and drive, as well as a deep love for fashion led here to the catwalk at BHMFW 2013, showcasing her elegant and classical pieces!
Dawns work embodies a simplistic and contemporary look with the use of delicate fabrics and structured shapes, that aim to inspire a trend driven fashion audience. Dawn has recently shown at Plitzs New York City Fashion Week since appearing at Birmingham International fashion week, as well as the Royal fashion show in 2013.
Sofia Couture
Day 1 Runway
Sofia Dourvari launched Sofia Couture, a high-end, luxury range of women’s clothing after being inspired by costumes for screen and stage . All of Sofia’s garments are inspired by the designer’s Greek roots combined with natural influences, creating floating dresses inspired by the wind, water and nature. Her elaborate designs are perfect for making an impact, with flowing fabrics and plunging back lines.
After studying at Salford University Sofia has lived and worked in Manchester for ten years and she is looking to break into the vibrant UK fashion community after showing at Birmingham fashion week 2013.
Ricardo Ramos
Day1 Runway
Berlin based designer Ricardo Ramos hails from Spain and after studying Fashion illustration at Central St Martins College of art and design, he launched his label of gorgeous detailed pieces, inspired by cultural heritage from across the globe. Ricardo’s designs, with there stunningly detailed embellishment and vibrant colours, derive from the designers extensive traveling and cultural experiences. His designs for Birmingham International fashion week 2013 were inspired from Polish traditional folk costumes and showcased elaborate and amazing colours that lit up the catwalk on Day 1!
His structured tribal pieces boast elegance and glamor, with outstanding detail that shows the craft and individuality of each garment.
